Hi, Lucy and Duane are reaching out to you today to ask for your support for someone incredibly special, Cheryl Shirt.

Many of you in Derby and Nottingham will know Cheryl as both a caring and beautiful friend or a dynamic force in the community, always full of life and endlessly giving. She has her private business ‘CASCharis Counselling’, a vital service providing mental health support and is also the manager and chef of Unity Café, an oasis of calm where people from all walks of life come together to enjoy the lovely environment cuisine.

Cheryl is passionate in her Christian faith. She has always been the first to step up when anyone needed help, whether it’s through counselling services, church initiatives, or just offering a shoulder to lean on.

However, Cheryl’s world has recently been turned upside-down, having been recently diagnosed with breast cancer, and while she is ready to fight this battle with the same strength and determination she has always shown, this news has highlighted some lifestyle changes. Cheryl has had to stop and consider her work with CASCharis Counselling and the future of Unity Café. With ongoing medical treatments and the recovery process, Cheryl simply cannot dedicate the time or energy she has done in running these important community initiatives. She will need to take time and pace herself.

Why We Need Your Help:

• Treatment Costs: The hidden costs of cancer treatment are overwhelming; loss of earnings and a reduced quality of life immediately spring to mind. We want to ensure that she can focus entirely on healing without the burden of financial stress during the recovery process.

• Maintaining CASCharis Counselling & Unity Café: These aren’t just businesses; they are Cheryl’s heart and soul and they serve the wider community and have helped many individuals over the years.

• Cheryl’s family: Aided by Geoff, Cheryl is a loving wife, mother and grandmother and during this difficult time, her family is pulling together to support her.
