Support Cynthia's Stage 4 Cancer Journey

Hello Everyone,
My name is Serafina Eagleton and I am making this Go Fund Me to raise money for my mother Cynthia Eagleton.
When I started this Go Fund Me, my mom had just gotten out of the hospital for hyponatremia (extreme low sodium). While in her 12 day hospital stay, she endured 6 days in the ICU, a seizure and extreme delirium. While running various tests in the hospital, they discovered several “lesions” in her liver.
The past 3 months have been a whirlwind of appointments and tests, which have led us to the discovery that my mom has stage 4 cancer that likely started in the pancreas. The cancer has spread to her liver, gallbladder, some distant lymph nodes and the bone.
This diagnosis has been a shock for our family and drastically changed our lives and needs. I have had to take a large amount of time from my job and leave my full time position. My grandmother, who lived with my mom, fell and broke her pelvis and now is having to move to assisted living.
I am updating this Go Fund Me, to try and gather more financial support to cover:
- The cost of in-home care giving
- The cost of lost wages to cover bills
- Medical bills
- Groceries
- Moving costs
I am beyond grateful for every way our community has showed up for us during this time.
My mom is a person who has always showed up for others, sacrificed her own needs and done the hard work needed to be a good community member. I want to show up the best I can for her in this time.
Thank you so much for reading,
Serafina

Original Post:
On December 27th, I took my mom to the ER for dehydration and critically low sodium, a condition which can cause extreme confusion, seizures, coma and can even be fatal. She was quickly moved to the ICU where she had a long journey ahead of her.
When I think about my mom these phrases come to mind: hard working, loving, passionate, creative and always putting others first.
My mom has been a full-time caregiver to my now 90-year-old grandmother since 2020, before that helping to care for my grandfather since 2015. At 60, my mom made the hard choice of retiring early to care give, but before that she was an ESL teacher for over 20 years. She was a staple in her community, going above and beyond to be an advocate for adult education programs, accessibility to education, climate education and justice. She has given years of her life to others and her community. She has always been a person to turn to and uplift others.
After 12 days in the hospital, a seizure and serious delirium, she has been able to come home. But the road ahead is a long one and has required my moving home to care give for my mom and grandma.
My mom is the rock of our family and it’s now my turn to take care of her. I want to raise money to give my mom a cushion in her recovery, not only to pay for the cost of living during this time but to invest in her self-care, her mental and physical health.
I am so grateful my mom is on the road to recovery and I want to thank anyone who took the time to read this. We appreciate any donations and any sharing of her story.
Thank you,
Serafina, Cynthia and Helen
