Support Dionicio (Danny) Martinez Medical Needs

A few years ago, our father was diagnosed with Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis and Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease NASH/NAFLD. He underwent treatment at Mayo Clinic, Rochester. However due to changes in healthcare, his care was changed over to Northwestern Hospital in Chicago. For the past few years, he has been traveling back and forth for MRI’s, CTs, Sonograms and blood work every 3 months.

He was told that his former diagnosis of NASH/NAFLD, had progressed into an aggressive form liver cancer. He received radiation therapy to help manage his tumor in hopes to prevent the spread of cancer. He was put on the transplant list and received a new liver August 2023 by the grace of God. Through this GoFundMe and a benefit in honor of our father we were able to support my parents with travel and medical cost that accrued.

Unfortunately, he has been fighting off a serious Ecoli infection in his new liver since June 2024. He has been in and out of the hospital every month. This has been a toll mentally and financially on our parents. Prior to September 2024 our father suffered a few mini strokes which were not caught and lead to him to suffer from a spinal stroke all due to the Ecoli infection on September 16th. He underwent two spinal surgeries in hopes to relieve the pressure of his spinal cord. He had a c3-c6 Laminectomy and then a c3-t2 spinal fusion and another Laminectomy. He had multiple blood transfusions. He is currently paralyzed from the chest down and it has cause multiple different medical issues (extreme bed sores, breathing problems/needs assistance with ventilation, mental frustration, cholangitis and a much more). He is receiving rehabilitation treatment at Shirley Ryan currently but due to insurance he is being transferred to a skilled nursing facility the week of Thanksgiving. We hope to bring him home eventually (our dad’s wishes) but that requires a lot of change. We will need to find our parents a new home to accommodate his needs. As well as the cost of transportation back and forth to North Western. This has taken a financial toll on our family. This will require months if not the next few years of treatment and rehabilitation. Our father is not one to ask for help but we as his family are asking for your support during this difficult time.
