Support Debra Good's Mission to Recovery

Twenty years ago, Debra Good had a tumor removed from her breast. It was not public knowledge, her friends didn’t know and most of her family was not aware. But she put on a happy face and continued with her daily activities. Although the tumor was a very serious health issue, Debra has also been suffering from other diseases.  She has been experiencing chronic migraines, Fibromyalgia, Occipital Neuralgia, Addison’s disease and Adrenal crisis for many, many years. Debra has always looked like the epitome of good health, she has worked out at the gym for years, is always laughing and loves fashion and design. But she has silently been suffering from these debilitating diseases for over thirty years.

 Fast forward to January 2020

It is with a heavy heart to inform her friends and family that she was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. The latest scan and subsequent biopsies have confirmed that the mass found in Debra’s breast is Invasive Lobular Carcinoma. Debra was referred to a surgeon for immediate removal of the tumor. She is awaiting others tests to determine stage and if the cancer has spread to other areas. We will have more information in the weeks ahead and will do our best to keep you all informed.  Breast cancer is unfortunately in Debra’s family. Her mother has had two bouts of breast cancer, endured a mastectomy and radiation. She had a cousin that recently succumbed to her breast cancer.  Her family tree has many family members that have had various types of cancer.

As if that wasn’t enough…

Along with the recent diagnosis of breast cancer, Debra’s other health conditions have increased in severity. Debra went into Adrenal crisis in early January. Her chronic migraine headaches and Fibromyalgia have made it almost impossible for her to maintain employment, social activities, and most other activities that many of us take for granted. Debra’s health situation has now become an extremely challenging and dire situation financially and emotionally.

Your contributions

Your contributions are critical in helping Debra have a chance in this fight. The physical and emotional toll that this will take on her is immeasurable. The loss of income and the expenses not covered by insurance have created a significant financial burden. My hope with this campaign is to try to remove, or at least, lessen the impact she will feel from this financial hurdle. Beyond the money, I also hope to help lift Debra’s spirits. She will have access to this page and will be able to read all your comments, so please share your stories, memories, and well wishes as well. Debra and her family are extremely grateful for any support to help pay her medical bills and ongoing expenses for the betterment of her health. I invite you to contribute and support Debra through any amount put on your heart. I am also asking that you share this page on social media to have your networks stand with her in this crucial time. And finally, I ask for your deepest prayers. There are many lives affected by these diseases each year and we want to give Debra a fighting chance.

Personal note about Debra

Debra and I have been friends for 40 years. We are both from Corpus Christi, Texas, and moved to Austin after high school. So I have seen her ups and downs, her many wonderful accomplishments, and how she has affected those around her. The love she has for her friends and family is tremendous.

Debra is one of the most positive, loving and sincere people I know. She was always incredibly active, healthy and full of life. And she has always radiated positive energy. After moving to Austin, she held corporate level auditing jobs until her health no longer allowed for those long hours and stressful environments. She then began her interior design company, Good Influence, which enabled her to work more convenient hours. Also, interior design is her first love!  And boy does she love her cats!! Three years ago she found a colony of feral cats and made sure they were fixed at the vets and returned to their natural habitat where she continues to feed them on a daily basis. Anyone who knows Debra knows she will take the shirt off her back if you need it. Many of you do not know that she has helped and volunteered with the homeless for many years. Unfortunately, with her failing health, she is unable to do these things as often as she would like. Debra will fight this struggle with no question!
