Our sister, Nisha at age 40, was just diagnosed with her third cancer in less than 14 months. In July 2021, Nisha was diagnosed with ampullary carcinoma and duodenal carcinoma. Her treatment plan consisted of a Whipple Surgery (removal of the head of the pancreas, the duodenum, the gall bladder and the bile duct). This was followed by intense chemotherapy treatments for 6 months. After 8 months , we were very happy to know that after her long and hard-fought battle she was considered in remission and on the path to normalcy.
However, a couple of weeks ago, just six months after her last chemo treatment, Nish was diagnosed with gastric cancer, which required a gastrectomy (removal of her complete stomach). The pathology report brought more bad news! Four of her lymph nodes have been infected which now requires another round of intense chemotherapy. She’s battling all of this along with taking care of her two sweet young kids, Shayla (2) and Sanjay (6) as a single mom. Her kids are her why, the reason she keeps pushing through. Every day she fights means more time with Shayla and Sanjay.
Post-treatment, without a stomach, and an already compromised system from the Whipple Surgery, Nisha has to manage her diet very carefully, to keep her energy levels up and prevent from becoming malnourished, a common problem for people that have had this surgery. But the difficulty is not just in maintaining her health, it's in providing emotional and financial support to her most prized possessions, her children. The cost of housing, healthcare, daycare and basic essentials as a sole provider of two kids is no easy feat to maintain when confined to a bed and no energy to do the things a mother wishes she could. And most importantly, we want to show her that she has the love and support from so many sources and that Hope is something she should embrace.
Help us provide her with the positive affirmation of hope by donating a little or as much as you can comfortably. Every contribution helps her focus on getting better, is a reminder that she has people in her corner, rooting for her to keep her spirits up, and motivates her to push through this page and onto the next.
