Support Those in Need: Nepal's Covid Crisis

The Covid crisis has taken a devastating turn in Nepal over the past few weeks-- according to the Nepali Times and the Ministry of Health, "Nepal saw 127% increase in infections this week...," almost half of people tested daily are found positive, Covid is replicating at a faster rate in Nepal than in India and most other parts of the world while just 4% of the population is vaccinated. While medical professionals and hospital staff work desperately to help people on the front lines, there is a growing need to provide relief for folks for who do not have the means to buy food for their families or secure at least one nourishing meal a day.
With another strict government lockdown in place, people are not allowed to leave their homes and all businesses are once again closed with exception of food shops which are allowed to open once daily in the early morning. More than a year since our first lockdown began, many families are struggling deeply. In addition, there are many migrant workers who depend on daily wages for food and shelter who are now without work and stuck in Kathmandu.
Our intention is to raise funds to provide food packages and/or hot meals to individuals and families in need during this critical lockdown period. We will be dividing up the funds raised among reputable organizations, as well as distributing food packages to individuals and families in need, as possible. In addition, we will be purchasing essential medical supplies for the Free Clinic that has been providing immediate Covid crisis services to those with the greatest need for support in our local community.
