My name is Angel Maxine. I am Ghana’s first openly transgender musician and an activist for the LGBTQIA+ Community in Ghana. I use my platforms to raise awareness, educate and inspire actions against societal ills, advocate for trans inclusion, LGBTQIA+ Rights visibility, health and sex work in Ghana.

Please support my work as a voice to the voiceless and to encourage people like me to come out of their shells and be who they really want to be, as raising awareness of LGBTQI+ rights and educate people that trans and queer people are not evil, but are in fact a natural part of human diversity.

On February 28, 2024, The Parliament of Ghana passed the ‘Human Sexual Rights and Family Values Bill, 2021’ also known as the Anti-LGBTQ Bill.

Ghana’s anti-LGBTQ Bill seeks to jail LGBTQIA+ identities and “related activities” (same-sex sexual activities, same-sex marriage, use of sex toys, crossdressing) 3mnths to 3yrs.

For allies, donors, activists, or promoters (including journalists) 3-5yrs.

The passage of the Anti-LGBT Bill has already started making the public physically hostile to the queer community. It has become more traumatising than ever to be ourselves in public and this affects my work as an activist, my freedom as a human and making fewer people engage humanely with the queer community especially living openly as a Transgender woman.
