Support building a new Mama Center in Tanzania

For many years, the WEHAF Foundation in Arusha/Tanzania has been helping women in need who are often infected with HIV, desperate and urgently need support. We at WEHAF have set ourselves the goal of mobilizing, motivating and representing widows, children and HIV/AIDS victims in the areas of health, social justice and economic self-determination. Our goal is to help these women and their children in the long term and to offer them stable and sustainable support on their way to self-sufficiency.

Through various projects like a sewing school and donation of sewing maschines, opening of sustainable small businesses, education classes focusing on nutrition, health and HIV prevention as well as english classes, providing of food packages and a lot more, we create a new perspective, hope and future for the women to secure their livelihood in the long term and to provide for the safe care of their children.

Currently, more than 250 women are registered in the foundation, 60 of them have HIV/AIDS. The pulse of the organization beats in the Mama Center which is located in a poor neighborhood in Arusha. The Mama Center is the central contact point and safe place for the single mothers and their children. Since 2017 - founding of WEHAF - the Mama Center has been forced to change its location a few times for various reasons. This unstable situation has led to great uncertainty among the mothers and has thrown back the project work of WEHAF several times. In order to put WEHAF on a secure basis in the long term and to guarantee a constant safe place and support for the mothers and their children, an own Mama Center is needed.

The first step in this direction has been made end of 2022. Supported by European donors, WEHAF was able to buy a piece of land in Arusha. The next step is the building of the new Mama Center. The goal is to complete the construction of the building until the end of Q1-2024.

WEHAF is a national NGO founded and led by Theresia Mollel (Thedy) - the "super mama" and heart of the organization. The project "Building a new Mama Center" is managed in Arusha by Thedy and supported by Meike who has been working in the real estate industry in Germany for 20 years. Meike spent 6 months in Arusa working as a volunteer for WEHAF and returned to Germany in April 2023.

What we achieved so far: A piece of land of 400 sqm located in Arusha/the suburb Njiro/Moshono was bought in December 2022. The building permit for the new Mama Center has been granted by the Arusha City Council in May 2023. The change of usage procedure has been successfully finalized to convert the usage of the plot from "residential" into "office/commercial" in June 2023

Now we are ready to get started with the construction. And we would like to build the urgently needed NEW MAMA CENTER together with you!
