Donate to Fred’s Sons University Fund

Hi, my name is Katie Pearn and I am fundraising for our neighbours and friends the Martinez-Torrealba family. We have had the pleasure of living two houses down from them since 2012 and our children and their youngest son are good friends. Sadly, Fred, the Father of this lovely family, passed away on January 21, 2024 at the age of 41 after a courageous 3-year battle with a very aggressive form of cancer. For much of that time, he was unable to work as he had to undergo multiple surgeries and treatments. What’s more, Fred’s wife Mayra, took a leave from work to be his primary caregiver since September 2023, when his prognosis was not very good. The family also immigrated to Canada from Venezuela, and he was supporting extended family members back home, and in Canada.

Fred was such a humble, good, and kind man. He was a wonderful father to his three boys (Sebastian 15, Fred, 13 and Santiago 6) and a loving and devoted husband to Mayra (who was his childhood friend and sweetheart). He was a selfless, dutiful, and generous provider. His strong desire to take care of his wife and boys, and make sure they were ok gave him the will to keep fighting as long and bravely as he did.

In honour of Fred, we would love to help take care of and bless his wife and children with a financial gift to ease their burden during this impossibly difficult time, and give them some hope for the future.

Any amount would be such a help to the family, and funds raised will go to the boys’ education fund, as well as to help Mayra as she navigates living life without the love of hers. Thank you so much for considering this request.
