Like many transgender individuals, I've grappled with the distress and fatigue that come with navigating gender dysphoria, especially later in life. The exposure to testosterone during puberty has left its mark on my body, causing distressing changes that I've struggled to reconcile with for decades.

While hormone therapy has been essential part of my transition, there are certain aspects of my physical appearance that continue to cause me significant discomfort. That's where gender-affirming surgery comes in. These surgical procedures offer hope for improving the quality of life for transgender women like me, providing a chance to align my body with my true identity.

Working as a transgender female commercial archaeologist alongside construction sites comes with its own set of unique challenges, ones that hit close to home for me. Beyond the usual hurdles of fieldwork, there's a constant awareness of navigating spaces where gender norms don't always match my identity. Construction sites, often filled with a predominantly male workforce, can sometimes feel like traversing a minefield of judgment and misunderstanding. Simple things like finding a comfortable restroom or changing area can become daily battles, adding layers of stress to an already demanding job.

However, the financial burden of these surgeries is immense, and unfortunately, it's one that I cannot bear alone. Despite working tirelessly in my profession as an archaeologist, the costs remain out of reach. The added challenge of being transgender in a male-dominated field only amplifies the difficulties I face. Yet, I refuse to let these obstacles deter me from pursuing the life I deserve.
