Hi!
My name is Tamsin Woolley-Barker. I'm an evolutionary biologist and Biomimicry pioneer known for my research on baboon speciation and its applications to human social organization. My book, TEEMING: How Nature’s Oldest Teams Adapt and Thrive is regarded as the foundational work on Organizational Biomimicry, principles drawn from evolutionary biology, ecology, and bioanthropology, and designed to unleash evolutionary potential in our lives. My work was recently featured in a full-length documentary narrated by Laura Dern, The Endangered Generation?, which highlights the work of scientists and First Nations leaders collaborating to restore living systems through proven original knowledge and practice.
.I've worked with a lot of Fortune 500 companies on exciting initiatives––but at some point I grew frustrated that I didn't have a comprehensive process for them to actually start and scale TEEMING. I started working on The TEEMING Transformation in 2018, but I could never get enough time to finish it and get it out there. In 2021 I decided to focus everything on getting that done and securing the Borrego Institute for Living Design––which was slated to become a personal ATV park and industrial water conveyance!
I'm delighted to say I was able to do both. In 2023, I sold my house of 23 years and finished the acquisition of this incredible 86 acre culturally and ecologically important wilderness. The BILD is now a special place for anyone to experience Living Design. Did you know it was a felony for Native Americans to study their own sacred sites before 1978? We are developing exciting collaborations with the Kumeyaay Community College Archeology Department and actively seeking funds and partnerships so young Kumeyaay, Cahuilla, and Cupa can experience the ways of their ancestors firsthand, and we can regenerate proven land management and technologies that grew diverse possibilities here for some 12,000 years.
I also just about finished The TEEMING Transformation! I'm very pleased with this book––there's nothing else like it. Guided by living systems frameworks unique to my work, it is designed to help leaders bring their visions to life in the teams, organizations, communities, and ecosystems they are part of and depend on––so we can all be TEEMING with life.
I would LOVE to get this in your hands, but I need help to go the last mile! The TEEMING Transformation: A Trail Guide to Living Design needs an editor, layout, and whatever publication costs arise.
Meanwhile, in the process of developing The TEEMING Transformation, I met Chris Lopez from the Regenesis Institute for Regenerative Practice. Chris is a dedicated practitioner of original knowledge––he's an expert tracker and applied naturalist in the old ways, spending much of his youth with Lakota family. We started writing this book together, somewhat in the vein of Braiding Sweetgrass. I think it's lovely and I can't wait to get it out there. This one needs a developmental editor most immediately, and then a copy editor, layout, and any publication costs. Help me get Chris published––he's a poetic soul and a beautiful writer and has a wealth of perspective to share.
And this one...The Biomimicry Manual is a feature I used to write for Inhabitat magazine ten years ago. There are 28 pieces, which I published as an anthology back in 2016. That sold out, and is aching for a new edition. I want to write a new introduction and add a couple pieces from Native Hawaiian and Kumeyaay perspectives, bridging Biomimicry and Traditional Knowledge to my current work centered on Living Design. How can we put nature's proven designs back to work? This one needs a new layout and images, as well as publication costs:
Lastly, The Endangered Generation Podcast! This is 10-part audio and video podcast series to be produced by Auditvita, sharing inspiring Indigenous-led efforts to regenerate communities and ecosystems through traditional arts and practice. Beginning with behind-the-scenes accounts from The Endangered Generation? each episode highlights people, places, and projects in Living Design: a powerful movement emerging at the nexus of ecology, business, local arts, and proven Indigenous practices in place. How might empowering human nature grow true wealth? The answers are within us, rooted in place beneath our feet.
This one needs a sponsor so we can get to work on production!
