Culturally Informed Care for Orphans in Congo
Donation protected
Tunda Family Foundation was conceived in August 2023 when Liliane and Jennifer were talking about Liliane’s recent visit to her family in DRC. As Liliane considered the needs of the children she saw, and her interest in returning to her home country, she recognized the opportunity to bring together her experience in child development, her knowledge of the culture and nuances of the communities in DRC, and her network of supportive friends and loved ones all over the world. Liliane and Jennifer began meeting regularly to explore the vision, speak with others who have developed and run a children’s home in Sub-Saharan Africa, and start putting together the building blocks of the idea. Within weeks, Liliane reached out to her contacts in DRC to begin the process of establishing the organization within DRC, and Jennifer began the process of creating the US-based 501c3.
Through these conversations, a vision and mission for the children’s home was formed:
Our mission is to cultivate and provide the necessary resources to develop healthy children, create strong families, and build engaged communities in sub-Saharan Africa. We do this by raising funds to provide for physical, educational and emotional needs to transform lives.
The Tunda Family Foundation (TFF) aims to establish a family-style home for orphaned children, and a training center for parents with children. TFF will purchase and develop land just outside of Kinshasa, the country’s largest city, and start by building a home for up to ten children. The program will use a “family style” approach that provides a home-like environment and parental-style support.
This past summer, Liliane and her son traveled to DRCongo with the following goals:
- Establish the Foundation with the government in DRCongo
- Identify and purchase a parcel of land for the children's home just outside of Kinshasa
- Visit similar homes to identify any additional needs and learn from others. We are grateful for the visioning and support from Visible Grace in Kenya.
This campaign supports travel expenses, fees to set up the DRC side of the organization, and with any additional funds will support the costs to begin building on the land.
Note: The Tunda Family Foundation has ultimate authority and discretion for how contributions will be utilized for our tax exempt purpose. Our goal is to have transparency in how donations are spent. See our finance page for bookkeeping information. Donations are not currently tax deductible, but we expect to have tax exempt status by mid-2025.
