Meadow Misses Family Adventures

As sometimes happens, life was turned upside down for Tamara, Susan, and Meadow about seven months ago when Tamara was involved in a very serious car accident that totaled their handicapped-accessible van. Now, the medical and PT bills are mounting. Tamara, Meadow’s mother, was involved in a very serious accident with the used power-equipped accessible van that she and her wife, Susan Oshman, used to take Meadow to medical appointments, on outings, and to visits with Meadow’s brother and his family. These outings were a highlight of Meadow’s life!

Tamara suffered fractures in both of her hips and the C-2 and C-3 intervertebral joints in her neck, and four fractures to her pelvis. She was flown to a level one trauma center where she received inpatient hospital care for eight days, followed by another eight days in a rehab hospital. Tamara graduated from using a walker, then a cane, to being able to ambulate without assistance! She has also progressed enough where she does not need to use a neck brace; however, she is not able to drive due to residual neck issues.

Susan had to quit working to care for Tamara. And, they have needed to use the small amount of insurance money received from the loss of the vehicle for living expenses and to help pay the mounting medical bills. Adding to the stress and sadness of the situation was the recent loss of Susan’s brother (and only sibling) and her mother, resulting in additional unexpected costs.

Thankfully, with Tamara recovering, Susan was able to begin work as a real estate photographer -- only to run into yet another setback. Their only car, that they put roughly $6000 into on an engine repair less than a year ago, broke down and they are facing an estimated $5000 repair cost. Susan needs this vehicle to get to her job sites.

We’re asking those who can, to help Susan, Tamara and Meadow make inroads on their continuing medical bills, fix their vehicle and, perhaps, even purchase a used handicapped accessible van to make Meadow’s life more fulfilling with adventurous outings and visits with family!
