Dominican Medical Mission's Trip!

"Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms. If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God. If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen." - 1 Peter 4:7-11

For the last 4 years I have been pursuing a career in Nursing at Clemson University. I chose this career because I have a love for the intricacy of the human body and a desire to serve people. The Lord blessed me with a spot in a very competitive program here at Clemson. I absolutely love what I do and am so thankful for the skills that I have learned during my time at Clemson. This fall, the senior nursing students at Clemson University were presented with an opportunity to travel to the Dominican Republic on our spring break (March 12th -19th) next semester. The Lord immediately put this trip on my heart (literally - my heart started beating out of my chest) and I haven't stopped thinking about it from the moment I read the email with the information. The Lord is calling me to do exactly what 1 Peter says - to be a faithful steward and use the gift of nursing that the Lord has given me to serve others who don't have a given access to health care.

On this trip my fellow nursing students and I (along with graduate Nurse Practitioners from Clemson and Dr. Keith Scott, an Emergency Room Director) will be partnering with Volunteers in Medical Missions (go to vimm.org for more info), a faith based non-profit organization. We will arrive in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, then travel to various neighborhoods (Barrio’s) throughout the country bringing medical supplies and screening for illnesses – two things that these people don’t have regular access to. The funds that I need for this trip cover the costs that Volunteers In Medical Missions and the international fees that Clemson University Global Relations requires, as well as fees for immunizations and passport fees.

I am writing this letter to you asking for your support. Above anything, I ask that you help me get to the Dominican - whether that is through the giving of finances or through your prayer and encouragement alone. Every bit counts and I am confident that the Lord will make a way for me to go serve the Dominicans and use the medical skills that He has given me! Thank you so much for your time and willingness!
