Team Nicoll Female GB Bobsleigh Olympic Bid
Donation protected
PURPOSE
I have organised this fundraiser because I need to self-fund a 2woman Bobsleigh Team to get to the Olympic Games. Although I am a full-time athlete I still work a lot of hours; so I am hoping with a combination of sponsorship, personal savings and public fundraising, I can make it happen.
THE PERSON
My name is Adele Nicoll; 26-year-old Welsh girl from a small town called Welshpool, in Mid-Wales. Raised by my fantastic parents, who taught me to wake up each day with purpose and intent.
An international athlete in two sports; Bobsleigh and Track and Field, with an MSc in Psychology.
THE BACKGROUND STORY
In 2022 I went to both the Winter Olympic Games and the Summer Commonwealth Games. In October 2020, I was selected as a reserve Breakwoman for the GB 1 Squad. To get myself off the bench, I lost 3 stone / 20kg; this took an unbelievable amount of discipline. That year I secured my place on the GB 1 squad and raced at the World Cup. In January 2022, I helped my pilot Mica Mcneill to a podium finish silver medal, winning Britain's first female World Cup medal in 13 years. Subsequently, we qualified for the February 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. In March 2022 l decided to start my career as a development pilot, representing Great Britain in the Europa Cup during the 22/23 season. I achieved a podium finish and 2 top 8 results in my first driving season.
THE GOALS
2023-2024 Season Aims: Europa Cup Podium Results, World Cup and World Champs Debut
2024-2025 Season Aims: World Cup Circuit and World Champs
2025-2026 Season Aims: World Cup Podiums and Olympic Games Qualification
THE FINANCES
UK sport awarded British Bobsleigh a pot of money for development. With this money, the National Federation purchased a Monobob (single-person bobsleigh).
However, there was not enough money in the budget to purchase a 2-woman sled or fund a 2-woman team. A competitive sled will help gain valuable seconds. Thanks to sponsors we were able to purchase a world-class sled this summer.
I am still trying to raise money as we have to pay between £60-£70 every time we slide down the track in training. The more training runs that we can do, the better we will get.
Runners are the blades underneath the sled, like an ice-skating shoe, which can cost between £5,000-£10,000 for a set. A good set of runners can save valuable time in a race that is won or lost in thousands of seconds.
Financial support would allow us to develop at an accelerated rate; taking away financial stress and increasing the amount of time we spend on the ice, learning how to drive and operate as a team.
THE MESSAGE
I hope this ask for help reaches people who can see the vision I have and the passion I hold, for making sure there is British Female representation in Bobsleigh at the next Winter Olympics.
I don't often like to ask for help unless I have exhausted all other options myself first. I am always trying to think of ways to generate an income to support my own goals. I visit schools to deliver presentations on success and mental resilience, I work part-time employed, I'm a fitness trainer and specialist athletics coach, and I run my own Children's sports camps. I previously worked in the NHS/private health care sector, on 12-hour shifts at psychiatric hospitals. My brain is often on overdrive, causing a lot of stress and anxiety. I usually just deal with everything alone but I've learned that showing vulnerability is not a weakness.
If you've read all the way to this point, thank you for taking an interest.
If there are any businesses interested in a corporate partnership or sponsorship, there are plenty of potential deliverables. These are inclusive of, but not limited to, taxi-bob rides down a track, advertisements on the sled, corporate event attendance, well-being workshops, resilience seminars, and social media collaborations. Please contact me directly.
THANK YOU.
