Support Darren Wood's Battle Against Cancer #TeamWoody
Donation protected
In October 2016, our Dad, Darren Wood, was diagnosed with Renal Cell Carcinoma and had part of his left kidney removed. Since then, he has had routine scans to make sure the cancer hasn't returned. This past October, he was having a lot of pain in his left side, and when he had his routine scan on his abdomen, they just happened to catch a 10 mm nodule in the bottom of his left lung. A few weeks later, he went in for a scan of his chest. The scan showed that just in a few weeks, the nodule in the bottom of his left lung grew from 10 mm to 13 mm. The scan also showed he has a 12 mm nodule in the top of his right lung, several medium-sized nodules, and lots of small nodules in both lungs. His pulmonologist said these nodules definitely seem to be cancer. On Christmas Eve, he had a PET scan which showed cancer in his diaphragm but did not confirm the nodules in his lungs to be cancer. Dad also had a CT of his head that day due to the number of headaches he has been having over the past several months. The CT did not show anything. He hasn't had a chance to meet with his pulmonologist due to the holidays and the doctor being out of town. Our Dad is scheduled for another scan of his head on Monday, January 13th, and then a biopsy on Tuesday, January 14th.
If you know our Dad, you know just how hard-working he is and that he will do what he can to help anyone. He worked his butt off making sure we had everything we needed growing up. Our Dad has still been working as hard as ever through all of the headaches and not feeling well. We want to relieve some of the stress for him and our Mom so we are starting this GoFundMe to help cover the cost of all of his scans and procedures he has had and will have to figure all of this out. With it being the beginning of the year, his deductible will have to be met and his maximum out-of-pocket cost will add up fast. So far, he has had to pay his portion upfront before they will do any of the scans. After having met the deductible for 2024, the out-of-pocket cost after insurance for the scans alone from October to December was right around $3K.
We know times are tough right now and everything is so expensive. The smallest amounts add up, and we greatly appreciate any and every little bit you can do to help!
A big Thank You from his 4 kids, Cassandra, Spencer, Samantha, and Megan, his 12 grandkids, Keagon, Jaxon, Emma, Bella, Presley, Alexis, Oakley, Payson, Macklin, Lainey, Odyn, and Maveryck, his great-grandson, Waylen, and his wife, Kathryn, of almost 41 years!
