Teresa Finchum’s Story
Teresa has been an employee at Hendricks Regional for 26+ years. She works in Hendricks Orthopedics & Sports Medicine as Dr. Prather’s private surgical tech. She is a resident of Putnam County. Teresa is married to Terry, has three grown daughters: Nikki, Tara, and Ashley, and five grandchildren.

I came in for a routine procedure on December 17th of this past year, expecting to be in the hospital for a few days, then released and back to work within approximately 6 weeks. My laparoscopic procedure converted to an open hysterectomy which extended my hospital stay. Working in the medical field for as many years as I have, you see many life changing diagnoses. The “C” word is always in the back of your mind. On December 18th, this became a reality for me. I didn’t see Dr. Fenoughty until the evening. She stated she didn’t have good news. I was told I have a rare cancer. Once I heard the word cancer, everything else said was a blur. I was then referred to Dr. Callahan at the Gynecologic Oncology Group of St. V’s. Since it was the holiday season, I had to wait some time for my follow up appointment. From the appointment, I was informed I would have to have an additional procedure and chemotherapy. My next procedure was on January 27, 2015. My other ovary, omentum, and some lymph nodes were removed. The waiting period for a final diagnosis was challenging, as well as hearing the final diagnosis. On February 17th, I was told I have Stage 3 Serous Primary Peritoneal Cancer. Since this is a rare cancer, there isn’t a lot of information available. This wasn’t the best outcome, but I can now move forward with additional treatment. I am able to have my chemo done at Hendricks Regional and started it on February 26th. I will have 18 weekly treatments. I have been anxious to get back to work. I just started working some office hours the first week of March and hope to be back in the Operating Room soon.
I am so thankful to my family who has been by my side during these trying months. I also appreciate the love and support of my friends and coworkers. It is always much easier to give than receive. I am learning how to accept the generosity of others and listen to my body. When faced with uncertain circumstances, we must make the most of the situation. I know there are good days and bad days ahead, but I will do my best to give them everything I have.

Teresa's family, friends, and coworkers would love to raise money to help cover the cost of lost wages, past, and future medical expenses.
