10.6.2020 It's day 200. On the eve of surgery, number 12? Honestly, I am not sure of the number. Mickey is scheduled for another surgery tomorrow morning. We ask for continued prayers and support for him and his family.
7.18.2020 Update on Mickey McAfee
Surgery is done the knee flap did NOT take. The dr did decide to try using the artificial skin on the knee to see where that leaves us. May have to do another muscle flap in the future. Will have to wait and see. The leg and the heel covered well. We will get to go home just a matter of what time. He will continue to be in pain but at least in a surrounding where you can sleep more than 2 hrs at a time. We have had the most amazing staff on the second floor at Northside hospital! After 17 days we have got to know so many great people from nurses, techs to dietary! Our God is an awesome God!
Per Heather, I want to say thank you to everyone who has supported us through this time. Your thoughts, prayers, and kind words have been what's seen us through. It's been long and painful road for my husband, your Assistant Director, or your friend. Even though there is still a long way to go, your kindness and understanding makes is easier every day. #NC2U #ADED
It's July 7th. Approaching the 4 month mark on this journey of healing for the McAfee's. After many hurdles and some celebrations as we continue to pray for this genuine and loving family, an update: Mickey has contracted Necrotizing Fasciitis which has now led to 8 surgeries to date. This has carved away rotting muscle, and tissue with more surgery to come. Tremendous amounts of pain. Long nights. The bright side, Heather is staying with Mickey in the hospital. That comfort has been what keeps them going through the pain and tears, still laughing at times and simply trusting in their faith to get them through this time. Much gratitude for all of the contributions and prayers.
Friday, March 20th, Heather and Mickey McAfee, were T-Boned while riding. A vehicle hit them hard, to the extent of one landing 70 feet away, while the other lay 10 feet from the broken top half of the tour pack. Both sustained multiple injuries. They have gone through a total of 5 surgeries and possibly more. Meanwhile, they are continuing the recovery process. It's going to be a tough journey and while there is insurance, the rising costs of the care now and going forward is mounting. We are hoping that the community will band together to support this cause and ease the financial burden that they are facing. Mickey and Heather have been involved in the motorcycle community and add value to the overall families in our community far and wide. They both have been there for others in need and now it's time for us, to step up for them. This is our family. We embraced them from the beginning which includes their parents and their kiddos. Their hearts are huge and their passion for purpose is now on their healing.
