The Store Cupboard Story

We are a not-for-profit food shop located in West Ealing. Nutritious healthy food is the cornerstore of what we do, and we passionately believe if people are struggling financially, they still deserve access to healthy affordable food and toiletries.

Our clients (or members) are referred to us by agencies and charities throughout the Borough of Ealing that are working with vulnerable families and adults. Clients come by appointment and have a volunteer with them as they choose their food. We make a point of taking time with our clients, rather than it just being a transactional experience. Spending 15-20 minutes talking and listening to someone does make a huge difference.

The Store Cupboard differs from many other food support agencies in that we offer fresh fruit & vegetables, chilled and frozen food, as well as store cupboard staples, and toiletries in a normal retail environment. There is a £3.50 membership fee for each weekly visit as we believe that by paying the small fee and being able to choose their own food this offers their clients respect and dignity when visiting the shop.

Much of the food is sourced from distribution charities such as the Felix Project, City Harvest, supermarkets and surplus produce from local allotments. However, most weeks we need to buy in extra food such as rice, oil and supplementary fruit and vegetables as well as toiletries - and it is donations like yours today that make it possible for us to provide a broad range of food for our families.
