The Martel Family - help keep a family in crisis together

Yesterday, I learned about a heartbreaking situation that a family I know is currently enduring. For the past month, due to circumstances beyond their control, they have been living in their car with their 14-year-old autistic son. With the colder weather approaching, their situation is becoming even more unbearable.

Their son, Noah, is struggling deeply. He cries every day, asking questions no child should have to: “Mom, how long do we have to be poor for?” The toll this is taking on his mental health is devastating—not only for him but for his parents as well. They have done everything in their power to hold their family together, but they're now running out of options.

The family has sought help from “every agency” in Red Deer and beyond, but all they’ve received is the runaround. Despite their best efforts, no one seems able to offer real assistance, and they’re now on the brink of complete despair. Noah has already lost his home, his pets, and his sense of stability. It breaks my heart to hear that, at times, he’s expressed that he feels life is too hard to continue.

We are urgently seeking help to keep this family warm, safe, and together during these difficult times. The family needs support in securing housing, gas to keep their car running through the cold nights, and food to sustain them beyond what food banks can provide, plus upu can'tcook when upu live in a car. They desperately need a place to live in Red Deer so that Noah can continue at the school that meets his special needs.
