My RIO 2016 Olympics Fund

My name is Jeannelle Scheper and I am a professional Track & Field Athlete, with a concentration in High Jump. While competing, I represent Adidas, but more importantly, I represent my home country, Saint Lucia. I most graciously and proudly adorn the cerulean blue, yellow, white and black whenever given the opportunity.

To say that my coach, Delethea Quarles, or Coach Dee has been essential to every small and large success in my high jump career is almost an understatement. It could not have been done without her. Not just a coach but a mentor, a mother, a friend... Coach Dee and I have come a long way, from a naive 16yr old freshman, in a foreign country surrounded by different people and unfamiliar faces to an NCAA National Champion and World Championship finalist. She coached me to be a great jumper but more importantly she has always challenged me to develop my character and faith.

We firmly believe in an  unwavering display of integrity, honesty, charity and living a purpose driven life.  We believe that everything we do should have a positive impact on those around us. Our drive for success is unquestionable... Even from the tiny beautiful island Saint Lucia, we have immense vision for using our abilities to affect the world in the most extraordinary way possible.

Coach and I have been preparing for the 2016 Olympic Games for the past 5 years, and I have dreamed of being an Olympian even before I can remember. Saint Lucia is long overdue for a place on the podium and wehave a goal and a plan the achieve that.

As you might realize, the road to the Olympic Games is not an easy one. In general, the life of a professional athlete, especially in Track & Field, is less than glamorous and is reserved for those who truly love the sport. In every faction of an athlete and their coach's life there is a tremendous focus and drive required in order to have a chance at the podium. However, the reward is great... to be an Olympian is a title held by only a select few...

In our endeavours to achieve what no Saint Lucian has achieved before, the need for support is all too important. An athlete does not win an Olympic medal on their own, but on the shoulders of their family and loved ones and through the heartfelt support of a nation.

Currently the St. Lucia Athletics Association and Olympic Committee are doing all that they can to assist me. Policies which encourage exposure for local coaches make it difficult to accredit personal coaches. Also, it is not feasible to pay for each athlete's personal Coach to go to the games as you might understand.

However, it is so important to me that she is there, at my very first Olympic Games, and as her first individual Olympic athlete. She has done SO MUCH for me. I feel that it is my responsibility for her to be there... So I am asking for your help and generosity here... anything that you can give is greatly appreciated.

Help us to make our dream a reality....

Thank you to everyone who has ever supported us. You don't know how far your love and prayers go.
