The Road to Texas - Help me get to the CrossFit Games

Hi, I'm Sam, an adaptive CrossFit athlete in the lower minor division for people with lower extremity adaptations.

My journey started at 18 months old when I was diagnosed with a spinal cord tumour that caused permanent nerve damage on my right side, specifically below the knee. I have limited glute, hamstring, and quad function on the right side and below the knee I have severe muscle damage resulting in drop foot. This means, I have no strength or movement below the knee and wear an AFO (Ankle Foot Orthotic) to support me to walk and train.

Instead of letting this challenge define me, I decided to redefine what’s possible. CrossFit became an outlet and a passion, where I push boundaries and prove that strength comes in many forms. I've learned to adapt, to fight, and to thrive, showing that limitations are only in the mind.

Growing up there was never really any adaptive athletes to look up to. So, originally, I wanted to share my story and be part of the adaptive community to help the division grow and evolve so that other people with adaptations or little kids could be inspired to embrace their own challenges. For the little Sammy’s out there to know that they can do it, they can be a part of something. Whether I'm lifting, running, or tackling new gymnastics skills, I’m driven by the belief that we can all exceed our own expectations.

Now I’m on a journey the CrossFit Games in Texas and I need your help and support to get me there!!
