Support the Schmidts: Recovering from Hurricane Helene
Donation protected
My dear friends, Amanda and Luke Schmidt, have lost everything in their home in Madeira Beach, Florida due to Hurricane Helene. Amanda and Luke welcomed baby boy, Nate, on August 15, 2024. Amanda, Luke, Nate, and their two pups, Bailey and Melo, evacuated and are all safe; however, the same cannot be said for their house and belongings.
They had 3+ feet of water in every room of their home. The nursery they put so much time and care into creating for Nate was completely ruined before they even got a chance to use most of the items inside.
The Schmidts are never ones to ask for help, but the level of destruction inside their home and navigating it all with a 6-week-old infant has been overwhelming, to say the least. They are the strongest people I know. This year they also lost Amanda's father, Pete, to a quick and tragic battle with lung cancer. As a pharmacist, Amanda was intimately involved in his care and was doing everything possible, all while being pregnant with Nate. They are now handling the process of hurricane cleanup with the same strength and grace that continues to astonish me.
Amanda and Luke want to thank everyone who has reached out asking how to help and those who have already donated through MealTrain. They are now shifting their thinking to long term as there will be a lot of belongings to replace, but they will need to wait until their home is rebuilt to have a place to put them. They appreciate each and every person willing to help and donate!
