X-Mas Toys For Less Fortunate Colombian Children
Friends,
For those of you that don’t know me my
name is Jeffrey and I’ve been in Colombia since March. I came here to visit my aunt for her birthday and the day before I was set to travel back to NYC, Colombia closed its airports to try and prevent Covid-19 from spreading. I wasn’t able to travel back and I was “stuck” here in Colombia. The airports are now open but I’m not leaving anytime soon. I feel as if my mission here isn’t done yet. There’s a reason I was trapped here, that reason is to help the less fortunate.
From April-June I also created a Gofundme and I was able to raise and donate a months worth of groceries to 620 families in Colombia. Depending on the size of the family that can be anywhere from 1,240 people to 3,100 or MORE! Not to mention we also provided 240 pounds of pet food to those with a furry companion. With some of the money we were also able to provide food, snacks and juice to 280 Venezuelan refugees right before their trip back to the Colombia-Venezuela border. They had voluntarily chose to go back to Venezuela as life in Colombia wasn’t much easier due to Covid-19. Of those 280, 80 were children which we were able to provide coloring books to so the parents could keep them entertained on their 12 hour ride back to the border. For Halloween I was able to raise costumes for 101 less fortunate kids. We provided them with candy and even hired a photographer so that they’d have a photo to hang up on their fridge.
Colombia has one more big holiday left and it’s the biggest one. Christmas. We can all remember back to when we were children and how it felt unwrapping the presents that were left under our tree. The excitement of ripping the paper and seeing the toy that was on your Christmas list. I want to give the less fortunate children of my town that same feeling. The plan is to shut down the street where I live and dress up as Santa Clause. Have children take a picture with Santa and receive a gift. Family, friends and neighbors have agreed to also provide snacks to make this Christmas an unforgettable one!
Please consider donating if you are able to. One dollar goes a long way in Colombia so anything helps. Sharing this post is also just as helpful.
I want to thank you in advance and wish you and your family a Happy Holidays.
