Trekking the Sahara for Stixy - 26.11.22 - 3.12.22
Hi all
I will be venturing to the Sahara Desert to embark on a 100km desert trek!
This five day trek covers over 100km passing through peaks, gorges, dunes and oases. The trek is between 20-25km per day and the terrain is incredibly varied with some days being hard, rocky and flat with others taking on rolling sand dunes which can be very hot and hard going given the temperature at this time of year ranges from 25-35 degrees.
At night I will be recuperating in my tent, sleeping under Africa’s star strewn skies and trying to avoid being bit by scorpions and snakes!
So why am I putting myself through this!? Well it is all in aid of the Steve Talboys Foundation; Steve aka Stixy was a good friend and colleague of mine that sadly and unexpectedly passed away in 2019. The Steve Talboys Foundation provides a legacy that continues to promote and develop Steve’s vision and passion by supporting children and young people to experience the life changing benefits of amateur sport in their local community. The Foundation funds local amateur sports clubs for children and young people in Surrey and individual children or young people in Surrey who may be held back by their financial situation from pursuing their sporting goals.
I was personally devastated by Stixy’s untimely passing and it gave me a fresher perspective on life and what I can do to help those less fortunate than me. I can think of no better way to honour Stixy’s legacy by raising money for his foundation by taking on this life changing and challenging event.
