Trey Smith-Still in the fight

The story of Atreyu "Trey" Smith - A year ago August 13th, this little fun loving boy at age 7 was in a horrific auto accident. The car he was in was t-boned pulling out from the church where he attended summer camp. Trey died at the scene but by the mercy of God, there was a CPR certified woman (an angel named Melissa Bennett) pumping gas at a nearby gas station and she breathed the life back into him. However, he suffered a severe Diffuse Axonal brain injury (TBI) and broken femur. Trey was in a coma for 28 days and since then has had to relearn every aspect of living... from breathing and swallowing, to eating and talking, and recently trying to walk again. At now age 8, he is slowly achieving independent ambulation (walking without walker). In order to accomplish this, he had to have surgery on the back of both of his ankles. He had his tendons cut to help elongate them. This was an extremely painful time. His mental recovery is quite slow but he can still make a joke and be his silly ol' self so considering his very negative prognosis in the beginning, he is truly a miracle! He has been a true warrior since day one, never once complaining! He talks of his time in heaven and we truly believe his experience there has given him the ability to persevere here. And although the hardest parts of recovery are behind him, there is just so much more for him to achieve! This journey of his will take years! And there are still so many extra expenses (i.e. renovating a bathroom so it is set up for him to use in privacy). So we are leaving his GoFundMe page open as long as Trey is in recovery.
