My story. In January of 2016 I began having some pain in my groin/hip area while running, along with some other health discomfort. I went to the doctor to check out the discomforts, not really worried about the groin/hip thing as I attributed it to overuse. As test were negative on my discomfort concerns (all is good) I ask the doctor about my hip. He said, "If it continues to hurt or gets worse, come see me." The groin/hip deal continued, actually getting worse. Went back to the doctor in early February, thinking maybe hip replacement do to all the years of running, soccer, sports in general. My running stopped in early February and I went to crutches. In March X-Rays were negative. By April an MRI was eventually OKed by insurance. The initial MRI showed an unidentified mass in my hip bone. Another MRI (contrast dye) revealed a tumor. My doctor immediately referred me to the James Cancer Center at OSU, and a specific orthopaedic oncologist. The pain in the hip was continual at that time. In May a biopsy determined I had a good sized chondrosarcoma in the hip. A surgical biopsy was scheduled to try and refute or verify the sarcoma. Results were positive and a surgery to remove the cancer was scheduled. On June 13 a hemipelvecular hip amputation with a flail hip construction was scheduled at the James. The 5-hour surgery to remove the cancerous tumor was successful and the recovery began. Two weeks in the James, three weeks at Briarwood in Coldwater for therapy and rehab, and currently recovering at my brother Chip's house in Coldwater. All signs of a successful surgery are present! From the time after the surgery I am wearing a hip/thigh brace to stabilize the hip and leg. On September 1, if all goes well, the brace comes off and I learn to walk again. Due to the nature of the surgery my right leg will be significantly shorter, 2"-3" shorter than it used to be. My running career may be over, but a healthy life will continue. Hopefully walking, biking, hiking, swimming etc will all be possible. In the future I will periodically be checked for signs of cancer, but as of now, and hopefully forever...CANCER FREE!

So many "Thanks" to all those who have supported me with prayers, thoughts, concerns, assistance. All are invaluable! God, and how he works through people...AMAZING!
