Edinburgh Zero Food Waste Base

Hey everyone!

Tummies Not Trash are fundraising so that we can launch a zero food waste hub. 

A central base where local charities, community groups and individuals can collect food that we collect from our donors. 

Currently our team collect surplus food 364 days a year (only taking Christmas day off as none of our store partners are open) which puts enormous pressure on our volunteers, especially when there is a lot of surplus

Over the past six months our small team was able to save over 60 Tonnes of surplus food that would have otherwise been thrown in the trash, which was then put to good use by families across Edinburgh. So we would love to expand on that great work throughout 2023 and beyond!

Having a base would allow the charity to:

Recruit more collection volunteers, meaning that we can save surplus food from more stores and encourage more community involvement

Create volunteering opportunities for young people

Provide a safe area to store and sort the food that we collect

Increase the amounts and types of foods that we can collect as we’d have a space to store them safely

Develop our partnerships, providing a permanent place to collect food from

Provide a space for other sustainability projects to work from
