Tyler Diaz First Responder Appreciation Project

Donation protected
Hi, I am Tyler Diaz, a Life Scout with Boy Scout Troop 334 in Miami Springs, Florida. Currently, I am working on my Eagle Scout rank and have set up this GoFundMe account to assist in raising the money needed for my Eagle Scout project.

I have been in the scouting program since I joined the Cub Scouts in first grade and have continued to be an active Scout for the past ten years. I am also a member of the Order of the Arrow (“OA”), the Boy Scouts' National Honor Society which welcomes only the top 15% of Scouts. As a Cub Scout, I earned all five ranks including the Arrow of Light, the highest rank for a Cub Scout. As a Boy Scout, I have worked my way through six ranks and earned 26 merit badges. In addition, I have held various leadership positions including Assistant Senior Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader. Currently, I am the Troop Guide for our troop. The last goal I have in scouts is to plan and execute a service project that benefits my community to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank a Scout can achieve. Each year, only about 6% of eligible Scouts become Eagle Scouts, which represents only 0.3% of scout-aged youths in the United States. So yes, becoming an Eagle Scout is extremely prestigious. Since I can remember, I have been looking forward to the day I earn the rank of Eagle Scout and am excited to demonstrate the management and leadership skills I’ve learned in the Scouting program.

I will be completing a service project that directly benefits my community's youth and first responders. My project consists of two parts. The first aspect is to construct a First Responder Appreciation Monument, giving thanks to all the firefighters, police officers, doctors and nurses in my community who continuously ensure our safety and well-being. It will be a rectangular prism, made of concrete and finished with a nice stone around the outside and a granite slab on top. Centered on that granite slab will be a bronze plaque expressing the community's immense gratitude to our first responders. It will be placed on the median of Westward Drive across from the entrance of the Miami Springs City Hall, facing north as you look at the building.

The project's second part involves hosting a First Responder Safety Festival held for young children in my community on the day of the monument's unveiling. The estimated date is currently Saturday, June 10th, 2023, from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The purpose of the Safety Festival is for elementary-aged children to learn safety skills directly from the first responders in our community and enable them to identify potential safety hazards and the appropriate responses. Several stations will be set up for the children to rotate through with representatives from the Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Department, Miami Springs Police Department, physicians and dentists from the community. A tent with free food will complete the morning of learning and fun.

My budget for the project is $3200 and the project will be completed by May 20, 2023. This is a large-scale project that requires a multitude of costly materials. Any financial assistance you can offer to help me achieve my goal of completing this project will be greatly appreciated. No amount is too small, and in the unlikely event any funds remain after the project is finished, they will go directly to the beneficiary of the project. Thank you for taking the time to read about my project and for your consideration.
