Support Scottish Squash’s Junior team go to Houston

Thank-you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who supported our fundraising to enable us to compete in 2023 in Australia. On the world stage our Scotland team came 10th !

We’re reaching out to extend our competing to this year’s World Junior Championships in Houston Texas. In truth, without your generosity once again, we’re unlikely to be able to meet the costs of the trip. And with squash finally becoming an Olympic sport, our dedicated athletes have their sights set on flying the flag for their country and progressing their professional journey.

Below each of us has individually explained what competing at the highest level would mean to us.

  • Ella Bannister, 15, Newlands Tennis and Squash Club, Glasgow
“Since I started playing squash, I wanted to represent Scotland. I’ve been fortunate enough to be selected for Scotland at both the Home Nations and European Team Championships. Representing Scotland at these tournaments has been some of the best experiences of my life. To be selected to represent Scotland at the World Junior Championships, to be part of such a fantastic team, is a dream come true. I am so excited about this opportunity, and I promise to give it everything that I have! If you can contribute to supporting the team, I would be most grateful.”

  • Natalie Main, 18, Inverness Squash and Tennis Club
“As one of 5 girls that went to Australia last July with the enormous help of all donations and fundraisers supported by all, I cannot begin to describe how amazing the experience was. The improvement to my squash was exponential and it helped shape my plans for the future of hopefully going professional. Now the time has come where we are lucky enough to get the opportunity to do it again, only this time in Texas. I constantly struggle to find the words to express my gratitude to everyone who donated last year but I can say with confidence that we would not have made it to Australia last year without everyone’s help. So, this year we are humbly asking again to help us get back on the Juniors’ biggest stage and show the world the talent Scotland’s squash women have.”

  • Louisa Kaven, 17, Whitecraigs Rugby & Squash
“Playing for Scotland at the World Junior Championships again would be incredible. After coming 10th in Australia last year, to play again and possibly improve on our result would be amazing. Being only 16 last year and playing the best players in the world I had the best learning experience I’ve ever had, as I was pushed in every single match. This year I feel that my confidence and experience has improved dramatically, and with an experienced team I feel we have a good chance in placing higher.”

  • Robyn McAlpine, 17, Western Health and Racquets Club
“To have the opportunity to put on a Scotland top and play at the World Junior Championships again would be a dream come true. Last World Juniors, I was only 16 and it was a massive learning experience for me as I was competing against some of the best players in the world. This brought me a lot of confidence when I realised that I was able to push them. I felt I gained a lot of experience from dealing with the travel and being away for long periods. Coming back from Australia I started to make my transition into the professional game, which helped me become a much more mature player so it would be amazing to get the opportunity to test myself against the top players and try and finish as high as possible. The team last year finished 10th, however, this year we are more experienced and I think we have the ability to finish higher which would be amazing.”

  • Oliver Hunter, 18, Bridge of Allan Squash Club
“Last year’s World Juniors in Melbourne was an extremely valuable sporting and life experience. Traveling across the world to compete against the world’s best perspective as to what life would be like on the professional tour. I have had the honour of competing at two World Championships in 2022 and 2023. Now my junior career is coming to a close and my professional career fast approaches. Getting to compete in Houston will be the perfect end to my junior career. Competing at an event like the World Juniors is an invaluable experience which has brought on my game massively. Having competed as one of the younger players in the tournament in previous years I’m ready to go in this year’s tournament as one of the more experienced players and fight for the top places.

We would like to take a moment to thanks everyone who supported all the players last year. It was an experience we’ll never forget and it allowed us to achieve our goals and set new ones for the future”
We appreciate it is a big ask, especially at these trying times, but every contribution will help, regardless of how small.

Thank you for your time,

Louisa, Ella Robyn Nat and Oliver.
