ILR Heritage Radio Project

I'm Andy Lloyd, and I've re-launched several 'heritage' local radio stations online, recreating the magic, sound and feel of British independent radio, as it used to be throughout the 1970-80s.

Whilst the 'network' has launched (and can be heard via the Android/iOS 'ILR' app, the service is currently an 'all network' service, meaning that we are not yet able to deliver station-specific output

That's why this appeal is underway, the service has begun but it's only 20% of what it can and will be, if I can raise some funding to take the next steps.

UK radio has changed. Local stations have disappeared, replaced by repetitive, robotic and remote formats. Most of the content comes from London, so there is no local identity, and no practical purpose.

Our project will bring back real radio, with a target audience aged 40+, and programming to suit all tastes. The network comprises 23 stations, we have a fully operational studio, and are already running test transmissions.

The project is a not-for-profit social enterprise, Independent Local Radio Limited, and we hold the UK trademarks for our stations, including Chiltern Radio, County Sound, Radio Victory, Pennine Radio, Radio Orwell, Southern Sound, Saxon Radio, WABC Radio, and KCBC Radio.

As you can imagine, the costs involved are considerable, so now we need your help. I’d be delighted to answer your questions, invite you to the studio, and hear from you, if you’d like to be involved in any way.

Contributions will be used to facilitate the expansion as a split station-specific service, this involves a big tech investment. The studios, most licencing and station distribution are now fully funded. Our 23 websites are currently being designed so this isn't a plea for something that might not happen, it already is, it's just that funding is desperately needed to make it what it should be.

If you’re unable to contribute financially, you can still be involved (radio production, presentation, web content and more). Of course, your ideas and suggestions are welcome too.
