Doctor's Without Borders - Rickshaw Run -
Join the Journey: Three Friends, Two Thousand Miles, One Rickshaw
This April 2024, come along with us on an extraordinary ride - the Rickshaw Run across India! We are three friends - Haider, Ali, and Karim - united by our love for adventure and a desire to make a difference. We are navigating our way from the North to the South of India abroad a rickshaw, a vehicle akin to a glorified lawn-mower, also popularly known as the tuk-tuk.
This adventure is more than just an adrenaline rush. We are driven by a purpose - supporting the incredible work of Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières). This esteemed organization brings vital medical care to those in need around the world, often in the most challenging and dangerous environments.
Join us in spirit and in impact. You can follow our voyage online, cheer us on, and most importantly, donate to our fundraising campaign. Every contribution, big or small, makes a profound difference.
ABOUT MSF & THE RESPONSE FOR GAZA:
Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), also known as Doctors Without Borders, is renowned for its commitment to providing medical care in conflict zones. In the case of the ongoing conflict in Gaza, MSF staff have been actively working in the region's hospitals and clinics. Their teams deliver a variety of essential medical services, including:
Surgical care
Wound and burn care
Post-partum care
Physiotherapy
Mental health support
Vaccination
Outpatient consultations
Many of the hospitals that MSF supports in Gaza have faced significant challenges. These include direct hits or evacuation orders that jeopardize the safety of both patients and staff. Consequently, their teams must continually adapt to the extremely volatile conditions on the ground. Presently, MSF mainly operates in the south of Gaza.
Their work has supported several hospitals and clinics, including:
Nasser Hospital, European Gaza Hospital, and the Martyrs and Beni Suhaila clinics in Khan Younis
Al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah
Al-Awda Hospital in northern Gaza
Al-Shifa Hospital in Gaza City
Rafah Indonesian Field Hospital and Al-Emirati Maternity Hospital in Rafah
Humanitarian aid and medical supplies
They are also working to secure the flow of essential supplies including food, water, fuel, medicine, and medical equipment. They were able to send over 75 tons of medical supplies—mainly surgical and dressing kits—through the Rafah border crossing with Egypt from October to January. Their teams in Egypt are ready to send more medical supplies into Gaza if allowed to do so safely. They are in contact with the Egyptian authorities and the relevant actors to provide health care for injured and sick Palestinians who are medically evacuated.
