Spelman is the number 1 HBCU in the country. A very
competitive school to get into as a transfer student. However I beat the odds and was accpeted. With school comes the cost so I have listed the break down of how much it costs to go to Spelman.

Cost to attend per year:

Tuition-$12,191 x 2 semesters
Total tuition Per year: $24,382

Student Fees- 1,899.50 x2 semesters
Total Student Fees per year: $3,799

Student Medical Insurance: $1,416

Housing estimate for the year $8,500

I recently graduated from Seattle Central College with my Associate Degree and will be going to Spelman for two years minimum to receive my bachelors degree.

Going to Spelman would mean the world to me because although studying is extremely important, going to school isnt just about studying. It is about building a community of people that will be around for the rest of your life. The people I will meet at spelman will help me grow into the person I am supposed to become.

My dream to finish college goes beyond myself. My brother was 20 years old when he was shot and killed. He didn’t have the chance to earn a college degree. He is my motivation for succeeding. As well as the work that I do in my community.

I am an organizer with Youth Undoing Institutional Racism (YUIR), an international organization focused on political education for youth, and building up our communities. By attending Spelman and pursuing higher education I will be able to further my understanding of systemic issues that continue to oppress our people. With this I want to develop my own system that helps youth stay in school and get politically educated in cities that don’t allow the space for political education.

Although, asking for help is hard, not succeeding and letting my brother down would be harder. Your donation would mean the world to me and help me achieve me dreams. As I am praying for a miracle to happen.
