Urgent: Help Return 22 Acres In Naua Sacred Site

Deep within Naua territory in the mountainous Uastlaj (Huasteca) region sits our Altepetl, which is our sacred valley, springs, river, waterfall and ceremonial burial center. This is the place of our ancestors, the place where we live today, and the place of our future generations to come. This is where our responsibilities lie.
Once we found that a machine excavator had damaged one of our sacred Tsakuali (ceremonial/burial sites), we've been organizing to protect our sacred site from destruction and exploitation. Specifically from the federal government and the small number of non-native landholders in our valley.
As this work has progressed, we are now moving to purchase a significant part of our sacred site currently held by a non-native “owner”.
Kuaptlali or Landback is our work to return and restore these lands to our community and in turn, restore our relationships with everything on tonansij tlali (our mother earth).
We have been in discussions with the landholder and they are willing to sell the land to us. This is mostly due to the fact that these landholders are unaware of these lands' sacred significance. If that were to change, we would likely lose the ability to purchase these lands.
As these discussions have progressed and we have gained more access to these lands, we have found that these landholders have destroyed and desecrated a number of burials to build walls, kitchens, homes and other structures.
We can’t wait any longer or allow more desecration to take place.
We are currently fundraising to purchase these 22 acres within our sacred site to protect these land in perpetuity and remove them from private land “ownership”.
Tlali (The Land)
The land contains a 4 bedroom house, a single-bedroom home, two kitchens, a palapa, roughly 13 acres of flat fertile land, an orchard, and two large wells. One side of the land is bordered by our sacred river and another by a freshwater spring. The land also sits just feet from our sacred waterfall in the heart of our ceremonial center.
With The Return Of This Land
With the return of this land we will house our Uajkapakaltlamachtiloyaj (school of ancestral knowledge). This center will be home to our autonomous school, taught completely in Nauatl and will bring together our youth, elders, community and carriers of ceremony to continue our ancestral work within our ceremonial center once again.
Within our Uajkapakaltlamachtiloyaj, we plan to fully restore our traditional agriculture, restore our waterways, return ancestral seeds and seed-saving practices, create an intergenerational Nauatl language program, restore Tetlalankemej (traditional birthworkers), and return temaskali (temazcal) to our communities.

The Time Is Now
We won’t let this opportunity go by or allow the land to be transferred to another non-native family/group who would only want to exploit the land and continue to restrict access to our lands.
This land will to be returned to our community, protected in perpetuity and restored as the center for our ancestral work.
This is the moment. Together we will make it happen.

En lo profundo del territorio Naua, en la región montañosa de Uastlaj (Huasteca), se encuentra nuestro Altepetl, que es nuestro valle sagrado, manantiales, río, cascada y centro ceremonial de entierro. Este es el lugar de nuestros antepasados, el lugar donde vivimos hoy y el lugar de nuestras generaciones futuras. Aquí es donde residen nuestras responsabilidades.
Una vez que descubrimos que una máquina excavadora había dañado uno de nuestros Tsakuali (lugares ceremoniales/de entierro) sagrados, nos hemos estado organizando para proteger nuestro sitio sagrado de la destrucción y la explotación. Específicamente del gobierno federal y del pequeño número de propietarios no nativos de nuestro valle.

Tlali (La Tierra)
El terreno contiene una casa de 4 dormitorios, una casa de un solo dormitorio, dos cocinas, una palapa, aproximadamente 13 acres de tierra plana y fértil, un huerto y dos pozos grandes. Un lado del terreno está bordeado por nuestro río sagrado y el otro por un manantial de agua dulce. El terreno también se encuentra a pocos metros de nuestra cascada sagrada en el corazón de nuestro centro ceremonial.
Con El Regreso De Esta Tierra
Con el regreso de esta tierra albergaremos nuestra Uajkapakaltlamachtiloyaj (escuela de conocimientos ancestrales). Este centro será el hogar de nuestra escuela autónoma, impartida completamente en Nauatl y reunirá a nuestros jóvenes, mayores, comunidad y portadores de ceremonia para continuar una vez más con nuestro trabajo ancestral dentro de nuestro centro ceremonial.
Dentro de nuestro Uajkapakaltlamachtiloyaj, planeamos restaurar completamente nuestra agricultura tradicional, restaurar nuestras vías fluviales, devolver semillas ancestrales y prácticas de conservación de semillas, crear un programa intergeneracional de lengua nautl, restaurar los tetlalankemej (trabajadores de partos tradicionales) y devolver temaskali (temazcal) a nuestras comunidades.
