This is really hard for me to do but I don't have any other choice.
Hello everyone, my name is Anthony Verde. I'm 26 years old and I live in Columbus, Ohio. I grew up in Levittown, New York, I'm married to the love of my life Amanda and we have a beautiful baby boy named Theodore who is 13 months old. My occupation is that of a handyman; a jack of all trades if you will. I am knowledgable in carpentry, plumbing and masonry. My family and I recently moved to Ohio from New York on March 3rd, 2014 because I wanted a more affordable living situation for us. On March 23rd I started work with a flooring company. For more than a year I worked diligently, 60 hour weeks to support my wife and son.
On April 9th, 2015, I was rushed to Riverside Methodist Hospital because my legs gave out all of a sudden. I was given an MRI and CAT scan. That day, I had a meeting with a neurologist who told me that the damage to my nerve endings that were located between my L4, L5 and S1 vertabrae seized to function due to those dics collapsing onto each other. He said that it was from excessive pressure caused from constant stress on my lower back. The line of work that I performed caused this issue over time, like how a cars tire would pop due to over inflation. He said it was the worst nerve damage he's seen in the 20 years he's worked in the field. My only option was surgery if I ever wanted to walk again.
I was extremely reluctant on the idea of someone cutting me open and operating on my spine. I waited and dealt with the pain. My family lived off our savings, but that was quickly dwindeling. Being bedridden for 2 months, I finally decided to get the surgery so I could try go back to work as soon as possible.
On June 10th, 2015, I under went the surgery to relieve nerve damage on my spine. The surgery is called a Lateral Spinal Fusion. My neurologist, Dr. Gregory Balturshot, removed my L4 and L5 vertabaes and replaced them with 2 composite vertabrae, 6 hinges that hold 2 titanium bars to provide manuverability. I was hospitalized for 7 days than released back to my apartment. I was able to stand and walk about 45% of what I was able to do before my discs collapsed. Unfortuanetly, I can't do so for very long. That immediately eliminated my abilities to perform my craft.
This is my story. I lost my job because I couldn't perform any of my duties and I lost my health insurance. My surgery wasn't covered and it came out to about $70,000. From what I know, that is being covered by a charity here in Columbus. My wife works a part time job as a baker and isn't able to work anymore than that due to the baby (Baby sitters are unbelievably expensive might I add). I'm practically immobilized, trying to watch an infant and it isn't fair to my wife to come home after work and deal with that.
My issue is affording my nerve medications and physical therapy co-payments. I'm not covered at all, and Medicaid and the VA have been nothing but a hassle. I have to try to get on disablity but I don't think that I'm going to be able to afford everything. I've done my best trying to do right by my family but now I seriously need help.
The $3,000 that I'm asking for will cover my medications, co-payments and other related expenses. It will also provide for my wife and son until my disablity clears. If your able to help us, please. God bless you.
(I can provide all the paperwork proving the surgery and what doctor, what medications and receipts proving I have already paid for them out of pocket and their price, what hospital, neurology clinic and physical therapy clinic and recipets proving I have paid their co-payments and their price and all other expensives stemming from this issue)
