Washington State Intersectional Healers Fund
Donation protected
This is a fundraising campaign to assist intersectional healers in Washington State, being managed by Shannon Solie of H.E.A.R.T. Collective (They/Them) and Dana Kahn (She/Them), both of us white, queer, mental health therapists based in Seattle. We have been watching as multiple collective traumas have exacerbated existing structural imbalances and created a world where many intersectional healers cannot work safely and consistently. Healers around us are struggling to pay rent for offices they hope to return to, are out in the streets fighting injustice, facing burnout and mental health stress at higher rates, are losing business due to their clients’ sudden loss of income/insurance, or may be finding themselves unable to work at all because their work is hands-on. Some of us have had to make rapid shifts into online formats without the software and setups to do this properly, or are holding valuable online group sessions for the greater community on our own time and without a reliable means of compensation, offering pro bono or reduced rates to support people on the front lines. On top of that, we all have to make the difficult decision of if/when to reopen our doors, which is forcing us to weigh our individual risk factors and health against our economic needs—a risk analysis that no one in the wealthiest country in the world should have to make. This fund is here to offer support to healers so that they can sustainably maintain their businesses and adapt to meet their communities’ needs in this rapidly changing landscape.
This fund is aimed at helping mental health practitioners, energy workers, and bodyworkers in Washington State who have been financially impacted by cancellations and forced to close or dramatically shift their businesses due to COVID-19 and/or calls to organizing work. Priority will be given to healers from communities that have been historically and systemically economically disadvantaged—specifically BIPOC healers, queer, trans & nonbinary healers, and disabled healers. We hope to be able to help anyone who meets the simple criteria (practices a healing art, lives/works in Washington State and has completed the application below) as long as we have the funds to do so, though this is dependent on funding levels and number of applications we receive. It is our hope to keep this fundraising going for as long as we can, in order to assist all applicants.
Where your funds go: 100% of these funds will go to directly to the healers who have applied. The amount given to each applicant is determined based on the amount of funds we receive, how much income they have lost due to cancellations/closing, the expected cost of their business adjustments, self-care needs, and how many healers apply. We use these factors to calculate what percentage of each individual request we can pay each healer.
If you are a healer in need of funds, please fill out the application here . We will be sending out the first round of checks on June 20th.
With your help, we can create a more resilient healing community.
In Solidarity,
Dana and Shannon
