Keep The Shelter Open Through April

Tax deductible
Spring is here, but the rain and cold nights continue.  This year's late rain is difficult for those who are homeless in South County, with limited options to stay warm and dry.  The 5Cities Homeless Coalition   Warming Center is the only “shelter" available for those seeking safety in the storm.  In the past we have closed the shelter on March 31 at the end of the winter season.  This year, however, with the late rains that we've been experiencing, we are making plans to remain open through the end of April - but we need your help.  We have a need to raise additonal funds to help us keep the Warming Center open through April 30.  We've set a goal of $5,000  to make this happen.  The nightly cost to open the shelter is approximately $600.  With your support we can continue to provide a safe and warm place through April 30.  Any funds raised through this campaign will be designated to operating the Warming Center, and should they not be needed for this spring they will be kept available for when warming center operations resume in the fall.

This winter, so far, we've been open thirty-three nights, and have had more than 750 heads "hit the pillow."  We've been able to expand our space at Hillside Church, so each guest this year has been provided a cot instead of sleeping on the floor, as in years past.  Additionally guests are given a warm dinner, blankets, clothing, food, hygiene supplies, and breakfast. It is a welcoming haven, and we strive to connect our guests to additional community resources and services as needed. For example:

o   We helped a young woman into detox and she is now in a clean and sober home

o   We helped place an 82-year-old guest into a care facility where she is now safe

o   We helped a young couple return to Colorado to reconnect with family

There are many more stories to be told. Every individual and every family is unique, as is their journey to break the cycle of homelessness.

With the help of more than 100 volunteers who donate more than 3,000 hours, we help keep people healthy and alive, warm and fed. Your donation will help to keep the Warming Center open and operating through April - please help as you can!
