HOBY World Leadership Congress

HOBY Leadership seminar is a 4 day long leadership intensive held across the country in which students that show leadership potential are invited to join hundreds of other “ambassadors” from schools in the area to learn about personal, group, and societal leadership through various speakers and group activities. I, Claire Yoder, was hand picked by my school’s administration and counselors to be the only student from Loveland High School to attend the seminar because of the leadership skills I displayed in student council, where I founded and planned the Cutest Dog Contest and am now planning the winter Variety Show.
At HOBY, something big we focused on was goal setting, which helped me formulate a plan to increase the attendance of the club I started at my school, Environmental Club. We also talked a lot about community service, and even did a service project, which inspired me to take a more aggressive stance in how often I volunteer. Because of this inspiration, I’ve now been accepted into the highly selective Bethesda North Trihealth (a local hospital) teen volunteer program, and am making plans for how Environmental Club can provide more service for our Loveland community.
I have been given the opportunity to attend the HOBY World Leadership Congress in Chicago later this month, which is a once in a lifetime experience. The week was described to me as “the leadership seminar on steroids,” because it is a week long, twice as large, and includes students from all over the entire world. I want to attend the WLC to further hone my skills as a leader and learn how to make a bigger impact in my community. The cost of registration for the congress is $1,825 and my flight ticket is $80, so I am seeking to raise $2,000 so that I can attend the congress and become an even better leader for the world around me.
