Playground for Deaf children
Donation protected
Who we are: Wisconsin School for the Deaf . We serve students who are deaf and hard of hearing who are 3-21years old. We are an bilingual bicultural school that uses American Sign Language as the language of instruction.
Who (or what) we’re raising money for: We are raising money for an safe developmentally appropriate play area for our preschool class which serves students who are 3-5 years old. We currently have an old (year) wooden structure that is too large, does not promote independence and is dangerous in terms of slivers.
How the money will be used: All funds will be used to purchase a play structure that supports preschool students in the areas of gross and fine motor skills, language development, and positive social relationships. It will also be used to build a fence to surround the play area to ensure safety.
How soon we need the funds: Summer of 2017
Why this means so much to us: Safety and the ability to learn in all environments is key to learning language, social skills, and future academic success. Keeping young children active helps them continue to be active throughout their lives. Play is important for growth and development. Play sets the foundation. "The house of higher learning is supported by a foundation of PLAY" ~Lisa Murphy.
How thankful we and/or children will be: Very thankful as funding is tight and every bit helps. Thank you!
