WWFA’s mission is to promote rural African community development by providing sustainable water sources and reducing health risks associated with contaminated water. To support this mission, WWFA focuses on two central priorities: (1) employing local staff and drilling crews in Malawi, and (2) partnering with local leaders to enable sustainable development in their villages.
Villagers are much more comfortable working alongside someone from the same region, someone who truly understands them and also speaks the same language. Rather than bringing in its own trucks, workers, and equipment, WWFA makes it a priority to hire locals, investing money into Malawi’s local economy and helping to break cycles of poverty in the country.
Once a water well is assembled, a water committee made up of local villagers receives the training and tools needed to maintain and care for the water well. This enables Malawians to become self-sustaining, taking ownership and responsibility over a central part of their livelihood.
