We the People - Wando High School
Donation protected
On January 8, 2016 Wando High School AP Government students competed in the "We the People: the Citizen and the Constitution", part of a nation-wide program sponsored by the Center for Civic Education earning the opportunity to compete at the national competition. Wando’s state performance was stellar, securing victory in 2 of the 6 congressional style hearings in which students “testify” before a panel of judges. During the competition, panels of judges ask questions and engage the students in debates about various topics related to the principles of the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and Supreme Court rulings. Students demonstrate their knowledge and understanding of constitutional principles and have opportunities to evaluate, take and defend positions on relevant historical and contemporary issues.
This award-winning team from Wando now has the opportunity to represent the State of South Carolina in the national competition to be held in Washington D.C. during April 22-26, 2016, if they are able to raise the necessary funds. A total of $30,000, or $1,450 for each student and chaperone, is needed to make this effort a reality.
The students who comprise this team are highly active and have demonstrated remarkable commitment and effort in managing the incredible workload required to have attained their current level of success. They welcome the monumental responsibility of representing South Carolina at the national competition. Please consider making a donation to partner with this impressive group of students.
