Water for Indigenous-Stewarded Earth Sanctuary
Donation protected
Greetings! We are an Indigenous-stewarded environmental sanctuary located in the Ozarks. We protect many wildlife, plant life, and pristine spring Water.
A natural spring provides all Water used within our sanctuary, providing clean water to all four-leggeds, wingeds, plant life, and our community. We use a small amount of this Water for daily drinking, showering, and washing.
35 years ago our founders built a French drain that funnels water into the community, but over the years, heavy rains have washed away most of the drain's protecting gravel. As such, the spring Water French drain is plugged up with silt and cannot function as designed; we’re capturing less and less Water.
Water is the blood of our Mother Earth and here on the land she provides plenty of Water for native wildlife and our community. Last year we needed to replace 35 year old water lines within our system and were successful in fundraising for that endeavor. Repairing our spring Water French drain is the final step to ensure our community has a reliable water system, allowing us to continue stewarding and protecting this beautiful land, home to many native living beings.
We need two loads of gravel that cost $500-600 per truckload, a backhoe, and labor to install. These construction costs are estimated to run about $2500 total.
We have raised an initial $700 and are looking to raise further funds through this GoFundMe. We have set a goal of $3000; additional funds raised will be put directly towards other improvement projects at our sanctuary:
- Guest bunkhouse fascia and soffit repairs, to keep native bats out of roof
- Construction of additional bat houses, to help native bat communities thrive
- 2 batteries priced at $600/piece to increase our community's solar battery bank. The extra batteries would keep our refrigerator running at night, power a hot water heater for our outside community shower, and provide further redundancy for our power supply.
Water is Life, and any help is greatly appreciated.
Tlatzokamati, with deepest appreciation.
