We Can Make It Again Fundraiser
Donation protected
We Can Make It Again is a community based organization (CBO) located within the Dzaleka Refugee Camp in Dowa, Malawi.
It was created and is managed by camp residents who want to provide job and income opportunities to single mothers and orphans by providing sewing classes that can later become a trade skill for them. Some graduates of these classes have now opened their own tailoring shops in Dzaleka.
Like many organizations, We Can Make It Again has also been negatively impacted by the recent pandemic. The pandemic caused the organization to postpone classes in order to prevent the spread through the sharing of sewing machines. In return, many single mothers and orphan students lost their ability to support both themselves and their families.
With the classroom now open again, teachers are having to tackle new strategies in order to safely provide lessons and keep the environment sanitized for themselves and students. In addition, there has been a new increase for the demand of masks, in order to provide the 45,000 refugees living in the camp with facial coverings.
By donating to this organization, you are helping to provide many needed resources in order to make their classroom genuinely healthy, safe, and an uplifting environment for all students in which they can succeed. To expand the opportunities it provides during the time of COVID, the We Can Make it Again team wants to invest in:
1. 10 additional sewing machines to help social distancing and cleanliness
2. Additional supplies of fabric, thread, sewing needles, and instructional materials
3. Painting materials to improve the classroom studio and add life and decorations
4. A professional worker to do the painting so it lasts through the rainy seasons
With these upgrades, We Can Make It Again can safely continue their classes and help their students with an important income generating skill that will enable them to better care for their families and neighbors.
Supporting this organization further confirms my belief that that we are all connected in this world, as well as together in this fight we call life. Nothing is more important than our collective work to fight towards equality, which starts with our unified efforts to empower everyone on a global stage.
