Support the Voices of Freedom through Mountains

Nasim Eshqi is an accomplished Alpinist dedicated to empowering women through her climbs, teaching the next generation, and helping them chase their dreams. As an Iranian sports scientist and former kickboxing champion, she has defied the societal norms, expectations and laws for women in Iran. These include not only wearing the compulsory hijab, but the severe restrictions by the Islamic regime on women’s access to equal human rights, employment, education, healthcare, as well as freedom of expression, behavior and actions. Nasim has refused to submit to this oppression, facing resistance from her family and society; as she fought for freedom and justice. In her previous life as a professional kickboxer, she withstood the intense pressure to promote the Islamic regime’s ideals and propaganda, which came at great personal cost and the end of her career. She was arrested several times in her fight for freedom and justice. Despite these challenges and imposed limitations from Iranian society, Nasim became one of the world’s top climbers, symbolizing hope, resilience and freedom. She has opened more than 100 new climbing routes worldwide.
But Nasim's journey is more than a battle against gravity; it is a fight for freedom and justice.

Nasim’s story is one of defiance and perseverance. Forced to live in exile due to her advocacy for women’s rights, she now lives in Europe, where she continues her work while pursuing her passion for rock climbing. Nasim is a committed activist, joining campaigns like #PomellatoForWomen alongside Jane Fonda and appearing in major media outlets. Through her platform, she challenges societal norms and advocates for the freedom of women worldwide.

In 2024, her autobiography was released, sharing her powerful journey to inspire others to find their voice and stand up for their rights.

‘When the Mountains Speak’ A Strong Statement

Nasim’s latest advocacy project, When the Mountains Speak, is focused on using climbing as a platform for human rights to reach a global audience. She opens new routes in high mountains, naming them after human rights movements to amplify their message and uses alpinism as a voice for justice.

Nasim believes that, like a mountain chain, we are all connected by one root. She uses her skills and power in the mountains to echo the struggles of those without a voice, ensuring that their message resonates globally. Her goal is to expand this project by opening more routes dedicated to human rights and women’s movements, raising awareness of these critical issues.

The first route was ‘Rise Up for Human Rights’ on Mont Blanc-France in 2023, followed by ‘Women-Life-Freedom’ in the Dolomites-Italy in 2024.

For her third route, Nasim will stand as a voice for children who are victims of underage marriage, a tragic practice prevalent in many different countries and religions. In Iran, about 30,000 girls are forced to marry under the age of 14, with 10,000 of them under 10. Worldwide, 12 million girls are married before the age of 18 every year.

In her statement, Nasim asserts, “These are not just numbers, these are human being like me and you.”
