Urgent help needed with Whittington Castle maintenance.
Whittington Castle, a 12th century Norman Castle in the small village of Whittington. At one time an important Marcher Castle on the Welsh border, then a family home and finally a ruin, it has been used as a court, a laundry and a small, private house. The castle is now run by a small, local charity with an excellent café and gift shop along with many events. The charity receives no regular grants, except for a small grant from the parish council. The castle is not connected in anyway to either the National Trust or English Heritage.
It seems like a long time since the upheavals of covid, however, it is only now, after 3 years, that we feel that things have settled down at the castle. Our day to day activities; opening the café and shop, running our summer and winter events are going well. Bookings for weddings at the castle are at last back up to pre-covid levels.
Whilst our day to day activities are now back on an even keel and going well, the time taking to achieve this means that we have built up a backlog of urgent maintenance at the castle. The ceiling in the bookshop needs replastering, the toilet block needs maintenance and improvement, the gloriette on the viewing mound and the steps leading up to it needs repairs. We also need to upgrade the kitchen, installing a new extraction fan and new splash boards to the walls.
Whittington Castle Preservation Trust is appealing to you as a supporter of Whittington Castle whether you would be able to make a donation to help with these maintenance costs. All donations, however small, will make a huge difference and any donation can be enhanced using gift aid.
On behalf of WCPT I thank you very much for your kind donation and continued support.
