Metastatic Breast Cancer 3Peat

Story

On August 13, 2016 the doctors told me that I had breast cancer again - for the third time. This time, the cancer had spread to seven locations in my body: lungs, bones, lymph nodes, liver, hip, arm, spine.  On October 21st, I collapsed to the floor, unable to even get up and I couldn't feel my legs. I was paralyzed from the chest down. Cancer was on my spine and had short-circuited my body. They did thoracic spine surgery and removed it. They said they didn't know if I'd walk again. I stayed in the hospital for weeks before being sent to a rehab center. I walked again. They sent me home in a wheelchair, with a walker. Everyday, I work on getting stronger, walking farther and staying alive.*They said "It's incurable. It's inoperable. It's systemic. It will likely kill you in 6 to 9 months. The best we can do is treat you with chemotherapy and hope to prolong your life."  #MetastaticBreastCancer Since he'd already decided that I was going to die, I opted against chemo. I wanted to at least give myself a fighting chance to live. I rolled the dice and here I am, alive to tell the story 3 years later. *I have very limited assistance from family and friends and I live alone. Every day is an emotional and financial challenge as I move in what has become my new normal to stay alive and not drown in my own tears.
