Join Yulissa & Family in Her Fight Against Cancer
Donation protected
This fundraiser has been established for my “Little Sister” Yulissa and her family to help alleviate some of the financial pressures that will mount during this time, so that she and her family can focus on her treatment, healing and spending time together.
On Friday, May 29, 2020 - Yulissa was brought to the Emergency Room at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston with chest pain. She was admitted after the doctors found a 9cm mass above her heart.
On Tuesday, June 2, 2020 - Yulissa and her family received the diagnosis - Primary Mediastinal Lymphoma. This otherwise healthy 18-year-old recent High School graduate who was ready to take on this next big chapter of her life is instead facing this giant hurdle known as Cancer. Yulissa’s treatment plan includes 18 weeks of EPOCH Chemotherapy- consisting of 5 days of medicine every 3 weeks. This is an intensive regimen and her road to recovery will not be easy; however, Yulissa’s attitude throughout this has been nothing short of inspiring. She is a strong young woman who will come out of this fight even stronger!
All contributions are greatly appreciated and will help to alleviate any financial burdens (medical expenses, travel, food, lost income) that Yulissa’s loving parents incur during this difficult time. There is no donation too small. If you are unable to donate, please continue to share her story.
To understand my relationship with Yulissa, and why she and her family mean so much to me, let’s travel back a few years…
In December, 2010 – Yulissa and I first met! We were lucky enough to be paired up as a Big Sister/Little Sister match, thanks to Big Sister Boston. On this initial afternoon visit, we decorated Christmas cookies – what a talented pastry chef!
{Don't worry, more adorable photos found below}
I am so thankful for all of the adventures that we have shared together over the last 10 years. Some of the highlights include making spaghetti tacos, hosting a bake sale, cloud-watching at the beach, ice-skating, roller-blading, learning how to sail, kayaking, making arts & crafts... and countless more! Most recently, we had the opportunity to explore Washington, DC together; where I realized how truly proud I am of the young woman she has become.
Yulissa has so many more great adventures still left to take once she beats this cancer; thank you for helping her get there!
With much gratitude,
“Big Sister” Kristy
