Support For Aleyah & Family

Hi, my name is Peta. I am the very proud baby sister of our beautiful Charlie and doting aunty to Aleyah.

If you know Charlene, you would agree that she is the most kind, loving, generous, thoughtful woman. She would go out of her way to help absolutely anyone. Everyone she meets, love her straight away. Her smile lights a room. Her only daughter, Aleyah, IS HER EVERYTHING. She loves the simple things in life, camping, animals, good food & wine, farmers markets, her family and beautiful friends and of course her essential oils (Young Living)!

In Oct 2020, I received a phone call that changed my life forever. Like many others, being told a loved one has found a lump in their breast was one of the scariest days of my life. It was stage 4 cancer.

Charlie, fought very hard with chemo, along with natural and modern medicine. She felt she had won the battle and she was in remission. She religiously made sure she attended all of her routine check ups and all was looking incredibly positive.

February 2022 - My father had a fall, broke his femur and was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. Charlie being Charlie, knew the best place for dad to recoup, receive treatment and recover would be up with her on her beautiful farm in QLD. She took on the full time care and responsibility of our dads health. A massive job in anyones world.

Sadly in June, one week before her 50th birthday, we found out that her cancer was had returned. Smaller than last time and and it was operable.

I flew up to be by her side as she bravely underwent a mastectomy. During the operation they also took some lymph nodes for further testing.

Sep 6 - Charlie started her gruelling radiation journey. 5 days a week for 5 weeks with a 3hr round trip each day.

Sep 13 - Charlie was admitted to hospital with debilitating back pain, vomiting, dizziness and unable to walk. She could not sleep and even spent an entire day out and night on her balcony on a mattress just to try get some relief.

Sep 18 - We learnt that her cancer had spread to the lining of her brain, spine and lumbar and we need to come to terms with the idea of living our lives without her. Could be weeks, could be months, could be days….

Sep 22 - We learn that it’s now in her blood, and central nervous system which is spreading rapidly through her beautiful body.

Sep 23 - Charlie went through a gruelling day of targeted radiation, lumber puncture and a difficult chat with her Dr about her life expectancy.

Sep 26 to Sep 30th - Another intense week of targeted radiation everyday. She has to be transported to a nearby clinic, this in itself causes immense pain and discomfort.
Her headaches are still very present and keep her awake most of the nights.

Sep 4th - Charlie had a well deserved break from treatment thanks to the long weekend.
her headaches subsided and she was much more comfortable. She had many visitors from family and beautiful friends including Luna (a gorgeous fury friend). Her radiation treatment started again but we are seeing small signs of improvement with her pain management.

Sep 5th - THE MOST UPSETTING DAY.
Charlie’s beloved puppy of 14 years, Bella, passes away peacefully the morning she was meant to visit Charlie in hospital. Words can not describe the deep seeded pain Charlie and our family felt.

Sep 7th - Charlie’s final day of radiation. YAY!
10 intense days of targeted radiation all in the hope to reduce her pain, slow down the rapidly spreading cancer and give her some quality and precious time to spend with loved ones.
Today also marks the day that I have made the very difficult decision to drive back home. I have spent almost every night sleeping in the hospital her her so she never felt alone. To make her feel loved and supported. To laugh, cry and watch cooking shows. Leaving her today is heartbreaking but I know she has the strength to hold on until I can make it back up to be with her in 10 days.

We don’t know how long we have with her. Personally I can’t imagine my life without her. But what breaks me more than anything else is knowing her precious little girl, Aleyah,
will grow up without her mum. She’s just turned 10, her biggest and most challenging years are ahead!

If you can help, anything at all, every bit will help. Every single cent will go towards helping Aleyah and family in any way we can. At this point my head is all over the place and I don’t really know how to comprehend or come to terms with our families cruel reality.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story.

Sending much love and strength to all.
