A Bench for Stephen "Mitch Munster" Mitchell

We did it! Mount Prospect Public Works approved the bench and we raised enough money.

My name is Shamus Thornton, and I created this Go Fund Me to raise money to get a bench dedicated to Stephen "Mitch Munster" Mitchell. He was only an acquaintance to me who I met coming out of Starbucks. He was a Steampunk dude, who was open and friendly, and had a really cool bike. He passed away too soon on May 15, 2022. It's important to me, because Mitch should not be forgotten.

Mount Prospect Public Works said that the bench at the corner of E Emerson St & E NW Hwy, in front of the Starbucks where he would often hang out, could be dedicated to him, if the community raised the funds. They said it cost $2,500 in 2020, so I'm trying to raise $3,000 to cover the estimated increase in cost. Any amount raised over the actual amount needed will be donated to the American Lung Association, and to the Cancer Support Center, in Mitch's honor. The Cancer Support Center was added because it is the charity chosen by Mitch's family to receive donations in his obituary.

Public Works would replace the bench that is currently there with a new one that is custom made with the dedication. It would look something like this:

If the Go Fund Me fails to raise enough funds to get the bench, then the fundraiser will be canceled and all donations refunded. If just 30 people donate $100, then we've made our goal, but contributions of any amount help us get the bench. Thank you!
