A Better Transport for Leah!
Hello everyone,
I have started a GoFundMe to support my 11 year old niece Leah. If you have the opportunity to get to know Leah and her family, you will find yourself in company of friends that are just like family!
Since birth, she’s been through many hardships because she was different from everyone else. Leah is paralyzed from the waist down due to Neuromuscular Scoliosis (NMS). NMS is a type of scoliosis that can occur in children who have medical conditions that impair their ability to control muscles that support the spine. Leah also has muscular dystrophy, cerebral palsy and spina bifida with are common conditions associated with NMS. Therefore, she depends on a wheelchair for everyday living.
However, Leah does not let her limited mobility stop her from her daily activities! She loves the outdoors and has dreams to do big things as every child does. Kids in her grade wondered why she wasn’t in a special needs class. She has always been an incredible advocate for herself; independent and always positive. Leah has a bright future ahead of her, earning Honor Rolls since 4th grade. She dreams of becoming a lawyer because she’s quick witted and can argue any obstacle that gets in her way.
In September, Leah will be undergoing a major spinal surgery to correct the curvature in her spine to relieve the pressure off of her lungs and internal organs that is affecting her breathing. This means that she will need a mobility vehicle to transport to and from the surgery and for everyday life events from now on. Conversion vans are very expensive; used vans can easily go for $60k! My sister had applied to many foundations to help with funding and had been rejected due to lack of funding during this pandemic. I am asking for your help to relieve the stress from my sister so she can care for her daughter without the financial AND physical burden. Her parents wouldn’t have to pick up Leah to go in and out of a vehicle! All the proceeds will be used towards the vehicle and expenses that will occur due to Leah’s surgery.
No amount is too small and please spread the word. Let’s help Leah!!
